From East To West

On February 24th, 2022 Russia launched a full-scale invasion of my home country. A year later, about 8 million Ukrainian refugees have been recorded across Europe. This project documents the journey they took in the first weeks of the full-scale war, starting with crossing the Polish border to arriving at the refugee centre in Berlin. It also includes events occurring in the following months, such as demonstrations, volunteer centres, and portraits of refugees, including my own family. 

 

The suffering of the Ukrainian people continues to this day, as they endure the loss of their homes, loved ones, and freedom as a result of Russia's criminal war. Through this project, their stories are told, their voices heard, and their determination to persevere is celebrated.
